Using a Mobile Phone While Driving

I made a mistake by checking my phone while stuck in traffic. I noticed a police officer in a patrol car watching me, but thankfully, they didn’t pull me over. I’m now concerned that they might send me a ticket in the mail. Do they issue fines if you weren’t pulled over? I realize I shouldn’t do this again, especially here in NSW.

  1. It’s good that you’re reflecting on your actions and recognizing the risks associated with using a mobile phone while driving. In New South Wales (NSW), police typically do not issue fines via mail for offenses that they did not directly observe, like using a phone while stopped in traffic. However, if they had enough evidence or if there was a camera monitoring that area, there is a chance you could receive a fine later on.

It’s always best to avoid any use of your phone while driving, even when stopped, to ensure your safety and compliance with the law. If you’re concerned, just keep an eye out for any correspondence and remember this as a learning experience. Stay safe on the road!
