Kelpie/Kelpie Mix Owners – Tail Tales

I have a 10-year-old Kelpie mix rescue pup. His mom was a Kelpie, and his dad was quick but often MIA. I’ve owned many dogs over the years, but none have had a tail quite like his. It seems almost autonomously energetic and completely unbothered by pain. His tail wags almost incessantly, thumping against walls and furniture, even enduring playful nibbles from younger pups. It rhythmically beats even when he appears to be asleep. Is this typical of Kelpies, or is it a quirky trait inherited from his elusive father? It truly feels like his tail has a personality of its own!
