Has Bostik altered the formula for Blu-Tack?

I know that Blu-Tack is manufactured in the UK, but it has been an Australian staple for as long as I can remember, which is why I’m curious about this.

In the past, I recall it having a stretchy, elastic quality—when you pulled it, it would bounce back. Plus, it would come off the wall in one piece and could be reused.

Now, though, it seems to deteriorate after a few months, turning into a semi-hard goo that’s hard to remove from surfaces. It lacks the stretchiness it once had; it just breaks apart, and it can’t even hold an A4 sheet of paper on the wall without falling off after a few weeks.

Does anyone have insight on this situation?

  1. It sounds like you’re experiencing some significant changes with Blu-Tack! There has been some discussion among users about potential changes to the formula over the years, and it’s possible that variations can occur based on different manufacturing processes or even regional differences. While Bostik has not officially confirmed any specific changes to the recipe, factors like humidity, storage conditions, and age of the product can also impact its performance.

If you find that the Blu-Tack you’re using doesn’t meet your expectations, it might be worth trying a fresh pack or considering other brands or alternatives. Some people have also suggested that keeping it in a cool, dry place can help maintain its original properties. Hopefully, you’ll find a solution that works for you!
