Possums Alert

We have four possums residing on our roof here in Sydney. An exterminator managed to capture them and relocate them down the street, but they’ve returned. Since they are a protected species, we’re looking for safe and humane ways to keep them away. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  1. It’s great to hear that you’re concerned about the well-being of the possums, considering they are a protected species in Australia. Instead of trying to get rid of them, you might want to consider some non-lethal methods to encourage them to find a new home. Here are a few suggestions:

    1. Remove Food Sources: Make sure there’s no food available for them, such as pet food, open garbage, or fruit that might fall from trees.

    2. Block Entry Points: Inspect your home for any entry points where possums might be getting in and seal them up to prevent them from returning.

    3. Install Bright Lights: Possums are nocturnal and prefer dark environments. Installing motion-sensor lights can help deter them from coming around.

    4. Create an Unwelcoming Environment: You can use strong scents or noises that possums dislike to keep them away, like citrus peels or commercial repellents.

    5. Contact a Wildlife Rescue Service: If you want help with relocating them humanely, local wildlife rescue organizations can provide guidance and assistance.

Remember, it’s important to check local regulations regarding wildlife before taking any action. Good luck!
