A few weeks ago, I visited MyCar in Murrumbeena to have my mother’s 2005 Nissan Pulsar fitted with two new Continental Comfort Contact tyres, along with a scheduled logbook service and wheel alignment. The tyres were ordered online during a promotional sale offering 33% off for new store customers. The plan was straightforward: ensure the vehicle was safe and comfortable for my mum.

The Unexpected Outcome

After completing the service and paying for additional work such as a radiator flush and bleeding, I picked up the car and took it to my mum’s residence. It wasn’t until the next day that my mother inspected the tyres more closely. To our surprise, the vehicle was not fitted with the Continental tyres as intended. Instead, the shop had installed four new Kumho tyres.

The tire markings confirmed their newness—they are manufactured with production dates indicating they will be fresh through mid-2024. Interestingly, the purchase price for these four Kumhos was roughly $350, which is quite a bargain considering their brand and quality.

The Dilemma

Naturally, I contacted the service centre to request a refund for the price difference, as they did not supply what was originally ordered. However, the more I think about it, the more I wonder: Could this actually be a good outcome? We ended up with four brand-new, quality tyres at a price significantly lower than usual.
