Which university in NSW is the best for studying design?

I’ve been achieving excellent grades in design and have built a solid portfolio, along with experience in game-related design work that I believe could enhance my university application.

I’m particularly interested in programs that focus on 3D software and CAD, such as product design. I’m currently considering the product design course at UTS, but I want to make sure I choose the right path.

I’d appreciate any unbiased recommendations! Thank you for your help!

  1. There are several reputable universities in New South Wales that offer strong design programs, particularly if you’re interested in product design and working with 3D software and CAD.

    1. University of Technology Sydney (UTS): As you mentioned, UTS has a well-regarded product design program. They focus on industry collaboration and hands-on experience, which could be beneficial for your portfolio.

    2. University of New South Wales (UNSW): UNSW offers a Bachelor of Design in Industrial Design, where you can work with various design tools, including 3D software. They also have strong industry connections and a focus on innovation.

    3. University of Sydney: The Sydney College of the Arts offers design courses that could align with your interests. Although they are more focused on art and visual culture, they still include aspects of product design.

    4. Western Sydney University: Their Bachelor of Design (Product) program emphasizes both theoretical and practical skills, including CAD and 3D modeling, making it a good option to consider.

    5. TAFE NSW: While not a university, TAFE offers excellent design courses that are industry-focused and hands-on. Their programs might be a good complement to your university studies or a pathway into the field.

Ultimately, the best choice depends on your specific interests, values, and the kind of environment you thrive in. It’s a good idea to visit the campuses, meet with faculty, and see examples of student work to get a better feel for each program. Good luck with your application!
