Should I cut my Australian trip short?
I’m a solo female traveler from the UK, currently one month into a 1.5-month adventure along the East Coast of Australia.

I’ve just spent five days in Brisbane, where it rained for about 80% of the time. Now, I’ve been in Noosa for three days, and the rain hasn’t let up at all. I’m starting to feel like I’m wasting my money without being able to do much at all.

This weekend, I’m camping on Fraser Island, followed by a trip to Airlie Beach, sailing around the Whitsundays, and then heading to Cairns. However, my weather app is predicting rain every day, and it hasn’t been wrong so far.

Is it worth it to continue with my plans? I’m considering ending my trip early and possibly returning in September or November.

I would really appreciate some advice since I’m navigating this solo. Thank you!

  1. It sounds like you’re having a tough time with the weather, which can definitely put a damper on your travel experience. Here are a few things to consider before making your decision:

    1. Check for Alternative Activities: While rainy weather can limit some outdoor activities, look into indoor options or alternative experiences at your destinations. Sometimes, exploring local cafes, museums, or cultural events can still provide a memorable experience.

    2. Safety First: Ensure that you feel safe and comfortable in your current surroundings, especially as a solo traveler. If the weather is affecting your plans and causing you stress, it’s important to prioritize your well-being.

    3. Previous Experiences: Reflect on why you wanted to travel to Australia in the first place. If you believe the experiences ahead, like Fraser Island and the Whitsundays, are still worth it despite the potential for rain, it might be worth continuing your trip.

    4. Flexibility with Future Plans: If you do decide to cut your trip short, consider how you can still make the most of this part of your journey. You could use the remaining time to explore other areas or return to Australia when the weather is more favorable, as you mentioned.

    5. Talk to Other Travelers: Sometimes, connecting with fellow travelers can provide new insights and suggestions. They might have tips based on their own experiences with similar weather.

Ultimately, trust your instincts about what feels right for you. Whether you decide to brave the rain or reschedule for a sunnier time, remember that the journey is just as important as the destination. Safe travels!
