  1. One of the creepiest small towns in Victoria that comes to mind is Ballarat. Known for its gold rush history, it has many ghost stories and paranormal reports, especially around the historic Sovereign Hill and the Ballarat Cemetery. The eerie atmosphere of the old buildings and narrow streets can definitely give off a haunting vibe, particularly at dusk.

Another town that often comes up in discussions about the creepiest places is Beechworth. Its rich history, including the notorious Old Beechworth Gaol, adds to the unsettling ambiance. There are numerous tales of hauntings associated with the gaol and other historic sites, making it a hotspot for ghost tours.

If I had to pick a place to avoid, I might mention Ararat, which is home to the old Aradale Mental Hospital. It’s an imposing building with a dark history, and while some find it fascinating, others might find it too chilling to explore. The stories surrounding the hospital, including reports of unsettled spirits, make it a place that could be best experienced through the safety of a daytime tour rather than a solo visit at night.

Ultimately, towns like these can evoke both a sense of fascination and fear, making them memorable for the stories that linger long after you leave!
