Townsville vs Rockhampton vs Mackay

Hey everyone! I’m planning a trip to Australia in November and I’m curious about which city might be the best for job opportunities. I’m primarily looking for work in hospitality, but I’m open to other options like farm work as well. Any recommendations?

  1. Hey there!

All three cities—Townsville, Rockhampton, and Mackay—have their own unique job opportunities, but it really depends on what you’re looking for.

Townsville is a larger city with a more diverse job market. It has a strong hospitality scene due to its proximity to the Great Barrier Reef and popular tourist attractions, which could be great for finding work in hospo. Plus, the tropical climate makes it a lovely place to be!

Rockhampton is known as the beef capital of Australia, so if you’re open to farm work, you might find opportunities there, especially in agriculture and meat processing. The hospitality scene is smaller, but there are still options available.

Mackay also has a strong focus on agriculture, particularly in sugarcane and mining. The hospitality industry is growing here, too, due to a lot of tourist activities, so there might be some good chances to find work in that sector.

If you’re mainly focused on hospo, Townsville might be your best bet for variety and opportunities. However, if you’re open to farm work and don’t mind a smaller city, Rockhampton or Mackay could be ideal as well.

Make sure to check local job boards and reach out to potential employers before you arrive. Good luck!
