Spider Bite Mystery: Can You Help?
Location: Whitsundays, Queensland, Australia

Hi everyone! A while ago, I noticed an unusual issue with my foot. It started with a persistent itch, and eventually, it developed into an infected sore that has become quite deep. My doctor mentioned it might be related to a spider bite.

I’m curious to know what type of spider it could have been. I live in the Whitsundays area, and I hadn’t even realized I had been bitten until it escalated. Initially, it just appeared as a bump, but now it has turned into an open wound.

If anyone can help identify this, I would really appreciate it! Thank you! 🙂

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your spider bite and the infection that has developed. In Queensland, some of the more common spiders that can cause bites are the Redback spider and the White-tailed spider.

    • Redback Spider: Their bites can cause localized pain, swelling, and can sometimes lead to more severe reactions, though they rarely produce deep wounds.
    • White-tailed Spider: Their bites can sometimes lead to ulceration and may cause an open wound that appears to be deep.

It’s also worth noting that some bites can get infected regardless of the initial venom effect, especially if they were scratched or not kept clean. Since it has been over two weeks and is not healing, it’s good that you’re following up with a doctor.

If you keep an eye on the symptoms and any changes, be sure to update your healthcare provider as necessary. In the meantime, if you see any significant changes or have any concerns, don’t hesitate to seek medical attention right away. I hope you start feeling better soon!
