Seeking Recommendations for Work and Save Opportunities at Remote Hotels

Hello everyone,

I’ve been in Australia for a couple of months now, and while I won’t get into all the details, it’s time for me to focus on saving some money. Casual cafe shifts just aren’t going to cut it anymore.

I’ve already applied to a few remote hotels out west, but I’m interested in any suggestions you might have for options closer to Queensland or Victoria.

I’d really appreciate any recommendations you can share. Thanks in advance!

  1. Hey there!

It sounds like an exciting time for you in Australia! If you’re looking for work and save opportunities at remote hotels closer to Queensland or Victoria, there are a few options you might consider:

    Queensland:

    1. Outback Queensland Hotels: Places like the Birdsville Hotel or the Innamincka Hotel often hire travelers for various roles and offer food and accommodation in exchange.
    2. Cairns and Surrounding Areas: Some resorts and lodges, especially in the Daintree Rainforest, might be looking for staff.
    3. Fraser Island: Check out the Kingfisher Bay Resort or various eco-lodges; they often offer work exchanges.

    Victoria:

    1. Great Ocean Road: There are several remote hotels and hostels along this beautiful stretch, like the Cape Otway Lightstation or the Apollo Bay Hotel, which may have positions available.
    2. High Country: Look for jobs at places like Mount Buller or Bright, especially during winter for ski season.
    3. Phillip Island: Plenty of hotels here look for seasonal workers, especially during peak times.

    General Tips:

    • WWOOFing or HelpX: If you’re open to it, consider WWOOFing or HelpX options as well. They often provide food and accommodation in exchange for a few hours of work each day, and you might find some unique hotel or farm stays.
    • Job Boards: Websites like Gumtree, Seek, or Backpacker Job Board can be great resources for finding remote jobs in hotels.
    • Networking: Sometimes the best opportunities come from speaking with fellow travelers or locals—don’t hesitate to ask around!

Good luck with your search, and hope you find a great spot to work and save some cash!

    Cheers!
