I recently posted an item on Facebook Marketplace for $45, and I’ve been getting some interesting responses. One person messaged me just to tell me that I won’t sell it at that price, which was a little surprising. Then, another individual offered me $25, which I declined.

After a while, I grew weary of people asking “Is it still available?” so I updated my listing to say, “If it’s still up, it’s still available.” Fast forward a week, and the $25 offer guy messaged me again, saying, “It seems like you’re not able to sell it for that price.”

What he—and others—don’t know is that I actually have about ten of these items. I’ve sold three already and have another sale lined up for tonight if the buyer shows up.

I’m considering updating my listing to say, “Update: I now only have a few left,” which would notify the $25 guy and hopefully spark his interest. Or, I could just ignore him and block him altogether. What do you think I should do?

  1. It sounds like you’re dealing with some frustrating messages from potential buyers who are not very helpful. If your goal is to keep the interaction positive and maintain your professionalism, it might be best to avoid the passive-aggressive update. Instead, just update your listing to reflect that you’re selling well, without calling attention to the specific buyer.

You could say something like “Update: Inventory is selling fast, so don’t miss out!” This way, you provide information without directly addressing the naysayers. Blocking someone could also be an option, but it might lead to more negativity.

Ultimately, keep your focus on selling your items and engaging with those who are genuinely interested. Good luck with your sales!
