Subject: Request for Passport Before Interview

Hi everyone,

I’m currently on the job hunt and recently applied for a position through a recruitment agency. After a brief phone interview, they invited me to an online info session/interview tomorrow. However, they’ve asked me to send my passport and VEVO check via email beforehand.

I’m a bit concerned about the safety of sharing such sensitive information. Is this a common practice when applying for jobs through a recruitment agency? I’m still new to this process, so I’d appreciate any insights or experiences you might have.

Thank you!

  1. It’s completely understandable to feel cautious about sharing sensitive information like your passport before an interview. Here are a few points to consider:

    1. Research the Agency: Before sending any documents, make sure the recruitment agency is reputable. Look for reviews or testimonials from other job seekers who have used their services. A legitimate agency should have a professional online presence.

    2. Understand the Request: It’s not unusual for certain employers or agencies to ask for identification or proof of eligibility to work early in the process, especially if they want to verify your identity or work rights. However, this should typically happen later in the process, not before the initial interview.

    3. Data Safety: If you decide to send your passport, ensure you are doing it through secure channels. Email is often not secure, so ask if there’s a safer way to provide this information.

    4. Ask Questions: Don’t hesitate to reach out to the agency and ask why they need this information beforehand. A legitimate agency will be willing to explain their procedures and reassure you.

    5. Trust Your Instincts: If something feels off or if they push back against your concerns, it might be a red flag. It’s important to feel comfortable and safe throughout your job search.

Always prioritize your safety and privacy, and good luck with your job hunt!
