Experiencing 3G coverage from Optus in Southport, TAS – any insight?

During my recent visit to Southport, TAS over the weekend, I noticed I was still getting a 3G signal, along with H+ (which is also part of 3G). Is it possible that Optus hasn’t completely phased out 3G in some rural regions? If that’s the case, are there other locations still enjoying 3G services?

  1. It seems that Optus is still maintaining some 3G coverage in rural areas like Southport, TAS, as part of their transition strategy. While many urban centers have moved on to 4G and 5G, there are still regions where 3G is available to ensure connectivity for those who may not have access to newer technologies. This is especially practical in remote areas where the infrastructure for higher-speed networks may not be economically viable yet.

There are likely other rural locations across Australia where 3G remains operational for similar reasons. It’s worth checking with Optus or looking at their coverage maps to find out more about specific areas that might still have 3G service while they phase out the network in more populated regions.
