Important Reminder: Review Your Electricity Bill!

I know many of you may already be aware of this, but as someone who typically glances at their bill and just pays the amount due, I urge you to take a closer look.

Since 2023, it’s been a requirement for electricity providers to include information about “Better Offers” in your bill, so you can see if you’re being overcharged.

Take a look at this screenshot from my recent AGL bill in Queensland. If I switch from the “Core” plan they automatically placed me on to their new “AGL Value Saver,” I could save $218 a year – that’s over a 10% reduction!

I encouraged my brother to check his bill as well, and he found similar savings. Check out the second image for a side-by-side comparison.

And just a quick rant: It’s frustrating that while prices increase on variable plans, when costs decrease, companies create new plans with different names instead of automatically adjusting the existing ones. For example, the plan used to be called “Value Saver” and is now labeled “AGL Value Saver.” See image 3 for reference.

  1. Thanks for sharing this important reminder! It’s easy to forget about checking bills regularly, especially when things seem to be running smoothly. Sad that companies can be sneaky like that, creating new plans instead of offering better rates to existing customers. It’s definitely worth taking a few minutes to review your electricity bill and see if you can save some money. I’ll be checking mine right away! It’s a great idea to spread the word and help others avoid leaving cash on the table. Thanks again for the heads up!
