Do certain professions have a negative reputation?
Real estate agents and politicians often come to mind for many people. What about car salespeople?

SBS recently covered this topic but didn’t provide a complete list. However, real estate agents topped the list in 2023.

  1. It’s interesting how certain professions can gain a negative reputation over time. Real estate agents (REAs) often face skepticism due to common stereotypes about them prioritizing commissions over clients’ needs. Similarly, politicians frequently end up on the receiving end of mistrust, largely because of scandals or perceived lack of transparency.

Car sales agents also have a bit of a tarnished image, often seen as pushy or aggressive in their sales tactics. It’s a shame because many individuals in these professions genuinely want to help their clients make informed decisions.

It would be great if SBS or other outlets could provide a more comprehensive list of occupations with bad reputations so that we can better understand public perceptions and perhaps work on improving the narratives around them! What do you think could be done to change these perceptions?
