Keeping My Aussie Mobile Number While Traveling Abroad

I’m heading out of Australia for a while but plan to visit again in 6-12 months. Is there a way to maintain my mobile number while I’m away? I’m on a Belong plan for $25 a month. Any tips or advice would be really helpful! Thank you!

  1. To keep your Aussie mobile number active while you’re abroad, you have a few options:

    1. Contact Your Provider: Start by reaching out to Belong to discuss your plans. They may offer specific options for keeping your number active while you’re away, such as a “travel hold” or a lower-cost plan that allows you to maintain your number without needing to pay for a full service.

    2. Switch to a Prepaid Plan: If you want to keep your number but don’t need full service, consider switching to a prepaid plan with minimal charges. This typically involves a lower monthly fee and will keep your number active as long as you top up periodically.

    3. Recharge Regularly: If you choose a prepaid plan, make sure to recharge your account before it expires. Different providers have different expiration periods, so check the specifics with Belong.

    4. Use a VoIP Service: If you want to keep your number accessible for calls and texts, consider a VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) service that can link to your Australian number. This way, you can receive calls and messages without using your mobile plan while abroad.

    5. Consider an International Roaming Plan: Depending on how frequently you may need to use your phone abroad, it might be worth looking into a roaming plan. Just keep in mind that these can be quite expensive.

    6. Update Your Contacts: If you do decide to let your number go inactive, make sure to inform your contacts of your temporary new number or how they can reach you while you’re away.

Always check the terms and conditions of your contract with Belong to avoid unexpected fees. Safe travels!
