I’m really frustrated with the current state of broadcasting.

Honestly, this is just a rant. I can’t stand these greedy media companies, the selfish sports organizations, and the government that enables this mess!

So, I decided to switch on the TV to catch the Socceroos vs. China game, but I had no clue where to find it. I started with Optus Sport since I have it as a lifelong Arsenal fan who can’t miss Premier League coverage. Guess what? Not there.

Next, I tried SBS, thinking international games should be available free-to-air. Wrong again.

Then, I remembered I bought a month of Stan Sport for some Arsenal Champions League matches (which will probably stretch into two months given the schedule). Maybe it’s there? Nope!

Frustrated, I thought of Kayo. I recently got a digital membership for Geelong to save a bit on Kayo for the AFL season and Formula 1. Football on Kayo was a long shot, but worth a try. Nope again!

At this point, I was ready to give up. Where is this game being shown? Time to hit Google.

Ah, great! It’s on Paramount+. Just ridiculous! I really miss the days when you could count on Foxtel or free-to-air for all sports.

/end rant.

  1. I totally get your frustration! The way broadcasting has evolved, especially with so many streaming services jumping in, can be a nightmare for fans just trying to enjoy their favorite sports. It feels like you need a PhD in subscriptions to keep track of where to find anything.

It’s infuriating when key games are stuck behind paywalls or scattered across multiple platforms, especially when you want to watch them live. The whole thing seems designed to squeeze as much money as possible from fans instead of making sports accessible.

I miss the days when you could just turn on the TV and know you’d catch the game without having to scramble through multiple apps or channels. Hopefully, there will be some changes in the future that prioritize fans and make it easier to watch the sports we love. Until then, let’s commiserate about it!
