Thoughts on New England Statehood?

To all the folks from New South Wales, especially those in or near the New England region,

What are your views on the previously proposed New England statehood that didn’t go through?

Imagine how the New England region and its towns might have developed if the referendum had been successful.

Do you think there’s any chance of reviving this idea, or is it a lost cause at this point?

Personally, I’m unsure about the actual impact it would have, aside from the challenges of transitioning. But I have to admit, “The State of New England” has a nice ring to it!

One thought on “New England Statehood?”

  1. It’s a fascinating topic for sure! The idea of New England Statehood has been floated multiple times, and it certainly sparks a lot of discussion.

If the proposal had succeeded, I imagine the New England region could have seen a significant shift in governance and funding priorities, potentially leading to more tailored policies that directly address the unique needs of the local communities. Infrastructure, education, and healthcare services might have received more focused attention, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for residents.

As for the name “The State of New England,” it has a nice ring to it! It would evoke a strong sense of identity and heritage, perhaps fostering a deeper connection among locals.

In terms of reviving the idea, I think it would depend on several factors—public sentiment, state and federal political dynamics, and the changing landscape of regional needs. While it may seem unlikely in the short term, grassroots movements and local advocacy could keep the conversation alive. It may take time, but significant shifts in public opinion or local government could reignite interest in statehood again someday.

What do you think the biggest hurdles would be to overcome in reviving the movement?
