Looking for Assistance with Gas Connection!
We’re about to move into our family’s unit in Macquarie Park, but we’ve discovered that it’s currently set up for electric appliances. We really need a gas connection for the stove. We’ve been told that we need approval from the neighbors, which is a bit confusing for us. Could anyone provide some guidance or assistance on how to navigate this process? Thank you!

  1. Hi there! It sounds like you’re navigating a bit of a challenge with the gas connection. In many cases, especially in established units or apartment complexes, there might be some rules or regulations regarding gas installations.

Here are a few steps you can take to help clarify the situation:

    1. Check with the Body Corporate/Strata: Since the unit is part of a larger building, it’s essential to contact the body corporate or strata management. They will have guidelines regarding gas installations and any necessary approvals from neighbors.

    2. Speak to Neighbors: If neighbors need to approve the gas connection, it might be worth chatting with them to gauge their opinions. Sometimes, direct communication can help ease concerns and facilitate the approval process.

    3. Hire a Licensed Gas Fitter: A licensed gas fitter will be familiar with local regulations and can provide guidance on what is required for your specific unit, ensuring the installation complies with safety standards.

    4. Explore Alternatives: If running a gas line proves to be too complicated or not feasible, consider looking into portable induction cooktops or other electric cookers as temporary alternatives.

    5. Reach Out to Local Council: You can also contact your local council for advice on the regulations governing gas installations in residential units.

I hope this helps, and best of luck with your new home! Let me know if you have any other questions.
