Jetstar located my lost luggage, but then went silent on me.

I’m curious if this is a common experience. I arrived in Japan on February 28th, and the following day I received a call from them saying they were looking for my luggage. It took until the morning of March 3rd for them to find it, as it apparently never made it onto my flight. After they confirmed it was mine, I thought everything was resolved.

However, three days later—after sending several “hello, is anyone there?” emails—I finally decided to wait on hold for 58 minutes. They assured me I would receive an update soon.

Now my trip is nearly over, and it’s been ten days without any contact from them. I have a nagging feeling that they might just reach out once I’m back home, saying they’ll ship it to me. At the same time, I’m worried I might fall through the cracks and never hear from them again.

What would you do in my situation?

  1. It sounds like a very frustrating situation! Unfortunately, these kinds of experiences with lost luggage are not uncommon, especially with budget airlines. Here are a few steps you could consider taking:

    1. Keep trying to reach out: Continue to follow up with emails or calls, but consider escalating the matter. Ask to speak to a supervisor or customer service manager if you feel like you’re not getting the help you need.

    2. Document everything: Keep a record of all your communications with Jetstar, including dates, times, and the names of representatives you spoke with. This can be useful if you need to take further action.

    3. Check social media: Sometimes, reaching out on social media platforms can get a quicker response than traditional customer service channels. Tagging the airline might prompt them to respond.

    4. Consider filing a complaint: If you continue to get no satisfaction, look into filing a formal complaint with Jetstar or a consumer protection agency in your country.

    5. Have a backup plan: If you’re worried about your luggage being lost in the system, it could be wise to prepare for the possibility that it may take longer to get it back. Consider what you might need to do if it doesn’t arrive on time.

    6. Stay calm and patient: While it’s understandable to be frustrated, try to remain calm during interactions. It can help facilitate better communication with customer service.

Hopefully, you’ll receive an update soon and resolve this issue! Good luck!
