Am I Just Unlucky?

Hey everyone! I’m a 25-year-old female dual citizen, currently working in my home country, and I’m feeling a bit lost. I could really use some advice.

Background:
I was born and raised in Malaysia, and I decided to leave my job in search of better opportunities in Australia, where my dad is from. I arrived in Australia around October 2023, stayed with my grandparents, and landed a job at Kmart, which I really enjoyed—it was so much easier than my previous work. However, by January, just when I was about to finish my probation, I sensed tension from some family members who indirectly suggested I should leave. Feeling down and unwelcome, I chose to go back home to be with the people I care about.

I had to quit my job at Kmart, even though I was an excellent employee—always on time and giving it my best. I returned to Malaysia feeling frustrated, especially since I had left my corporate job for this opportunity in Australia.

After a few months back home, I landed a position as a digital marketer specializing in influencer marketing, even though my degree is in social sciences, so it’s quite a shift. It’s been a year in this job, but my thoughts haven’t shifted away from the idea of settling down in Australia, particularly with my boyfriend when the time is right.

Now, my question is this: considering the niche nature of my job, would pursuing an MBA in Australia be a wise move to broaden my career options? I’m open to exploring scholarships or any financial aid available. I’m considering moving to Brisbane or Melbourne since I have friends in both cities.

If you have any insights or advice, I’d really appreciate it. This has been weighing on my mind since I left. Thank you!

  1. It sounds like you’re going through a tough time, and it’s completely understandable to feel frustrated and uncertain about your future after such a big transition. It’s clear that you’re motivated and committed to building a life in Australia, and that’s a great starting point.

Considering an MBA is a solid idea, especially since it can help you broaden your skill set and open up more job opportunities in Australia. It could also provide valuable networking opportunities, which might be beneficial in your job search. Look into scholarship options and financial assistance; many universities offer resources for international students that could make this more manageable.

While studying, you might also explore internships or part-time roles related to your field. This could help you gain local experience and could make you more attractive to employers when you finish your degree.

In the meantime, continue applying for jobs and don’t hesitate to reach out to your network in Australia for informational interviews or advice. Every application you send out is a step closer to your goal.

It’s important to take care of yourself during this time, too. Stay connected with supportive friends and family, and try to focus on the things you can control. Your dreams are valid, and with persistence and the right planning, you’ll find the right path forward. You’re not unlucky; you’re just navigating a challenging situation, and it’s okay to seek support as you work through it. Keep going—you’ve got this!

I’d be very intrigued if feral camels lived close by. Do you take advantage? The meat can be very fatty and flavourful from pics I’ve seen. Can you try to tame or befriend them?
