Subject: Clarification on Referee Address Requirements for AU Passport Applications

Hi everyone,

I have a quick question regarding the requirements for referees on Australian passport applications. If a referee meets all the necessary criteria, they need to provide either their passport details or their electoral enrolment address from the past 12 months.

If they choose to provide their address instead of their passport details, do they need to have been enrolled at the same address for the entire year? In this case, the referee has had two different addresses over the past 12 months. Can they simply list their most recent enrolled address, even though it hasn’t been their address for the full 12 months? Is there an option to enter multiple addresses in the application, or does this disqualify them from using the address option altogether?

I realize this is a specific question, but any insights from personal experience or relevant links would be much appreciated!

Thank you!

  1. In the context of the Australian passport application process, if a referee chooses to provide their electoral enrolment address instead of passport details, they typically need to have been enrolled at that specific address for the past 12 months. If a referee has had multiple addresses during this time, they should use the address they have been enrolled at during the last 12 months, even if it wasn’t for the full year.

Most application forms do not provide space for entering multiple addresses, so it’s best to include the most recent address where they are currently enrolled. However, this could potentially lead to issues regarding eligibility since the requirement is to provide an address where they have been enrolled for the full 12 months.

To ensure accuracy, it would be prudent to check the official guidelines on the Australian Passport Office’s website or directly contact them for clarification. Regulations can sometimes change, and they can provide the most reliable and updated information.
