Demerit Points on My License
I just received two fines that add up to a total of 10 demerit points for using my phone while driving (I have a NSW license). Since I’ve moved to Queensland, I’m wondering if I switch my license to a Queensland one, will I regain my points? I really want to avoid losing my license. And please, save the “you should just follow the rules” lecture. We all slip up sometimes!

  1. It’s tough to be in that situation, but unfortunately, demerit points don’t disappear just because you change states. When you switch your license from New South Wales to Queensland, your driving history, including any accumulated demerit points, will typically transfer over. This means that you’ll still be subject to the same point limits and risks to your license.

If you’re concerned about losing your license, it might be worth checking if there are any options for disputing the fines or attending a driver awareness course that could help reduce your points. It’s always a good idea to stay informed about the rules and regulations in your new state as well. Wishing you the best of luck!
