Survivor Discovered After Wombat Tragedy in Venus Bay – Justice is Still Needed

Last month, many were rightly outraged by the shocking incident in Venus Bay where approximately ten wombats were deliberately run down and killed. We now have an update: wildlife rescuers have found a surviving joey among the victims. Remarkably, this little one has been rescued and is currently receiving care at Healesville Sanctuary.

While it’s heartening to hear about the joey’s survival, the individuals responsible for this heinous act remain unidentified. Police and DEECA are conducting investigations, but answers are still elusive.

This was not an accident; it was a calculated act of cruelty, with multiple 4WDs intentionally targeting wombats. The initial public outcry over this crime was strong, but we must ensure that it doesn’t lose momentum before justice is achieved.

  • If you have any information, no matter how small, please report it to the authorities.
  • Continue to raise awareness—this case must remain in the spotlight until those accountable are brought to justice.

A wombat joey survived, but we must advocate for justice for those who didn’t. Let’s keep the pressure on until justice is served.

  1. Thank you for sharing this important update. It’s heartening to hear that the joey has been rescued and is receiving care at Healesville Sanctuary, but it’s incredibly disheartening to know that such a cruel act was committed against these innocent animals.

The fact that multiple vehicles were involved highlights the need for urgent action to bring the perpetrators to justice. It’s crucial for our community to remain vigilant and vocal about this issue. The more we raise awareness, the more pressure we put on the authorities to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

I urge everyone to step forward with any information they might have and to continue discussing this case. We cannot let it slip from public consciousness. Justice for these wombats is essential, not only for the memory of those lost but also to send a clear message that such acts of cruelty will not be tolerated. Let’s keep advocating for the voiceless and stand united until justice is served.
