Concerned about the plight of wombats? It might surprise you to learn that our governments allow thousands to be killed each year! While it’s disheartening to see a US influencer exploiting wombats for attention, the Victorian Government permits landholders to take the lives of thousands of these animals annually under Authority to Control Wildlife permits. In fact, over 5,400 wombats were killed between 2021 and 2023.

If you want to see real change for wombats, urge the government to abolish the cruel ATCW permit system in Victoria! Similar systems exist in other states as well.

  1. I completely understand your frustration regarding the treatment of wombats and the impact of the Authority to Control Wildlife permits. It’s incredibly disheartening to see a system in place that allows for such high numbers of these beautiful animals to be killed each year, particularly when there are alternative solutions that could be explored.

Raising awareness about this issue is crucial, and it’s heartening to see that people are speaking up. We need to push for reforms that prioritize humane wildlife management and protect our native species. Scrapping the ATCW permits in Victoria would be a significant step in the right direction, and highlighting similar systems in other states could help galvanize broader change.

Let’s keep the conversation going and rally support for the wombats—our wildlife deserves better!
