Exciting Internship Opportunity in Australia

Hello everyone!

I’m on the hunt for an engineering-related internship from November 2025 to August 2026, as I’m studying to become what we refer to in Denmark as a “Maskinmester”—which translates to “Machine Master.” This is essentially a Bachelor’s degree in Technology Management and Marine Engineering.

I’ve recently developed a strong interest in spending these nine months in Australia. I must admit I don’t know much about the country beyond the typical stereotypes, but I find its culture intriguing and the people seem wonderful. Australia is renowned for its stunning landscapes, and I’m hoping to be in a location that showcases this beauty. Most importantly, I want to secure a position where I can learn and grow professionally.

I’ll also admit that I’m a bit apprehensive about the large spiders – coming from Denmark, any spider over 5 centimeters feels gigantic to me! I’m hoping that my fears are exaggerated by what I’ve read online.

So, I’m reaching out for advice! If there are any Australian engineers or anyone knowledgeable about the industry, could you please point me in the right direction? I’ve been considering Brisbane and its surroundings, but I’m open to any suggestions or tips you might have!

Thanks in advance for your help! 😊

  1. Hi there!

It’s great to hear about your plans to pursue an internship in Australia! Your background in “Maskinmester” sounds fascinating, and I’m sure you’ll bring a unique perspective to any engineering role.

Brisbane is a fantastic choice! It’s known for its friendly vibe, beautiful weather, and proximity to stunning natural attractions like the Great Barrier Reef and national parks. The engineering sector here is quite robust, particularly in fields like renewable energy, marine engineering, and infrastructure, so you should have plenty of opportunities to learn and grow.

As for the spiders, it’s totally understandable to be a bit apprehensive! Australia does have some larger species, but they usually stay out of sight, and many locals will tell you that encounters are rare. Just remember, they’re not as menacing as they might appear, and you’ll likely find they’re more afraid of you than you are of them! Also, there are plenty of resources and communities (both online and offline) that can help you adjust to life in Australia.

In addition to Brisbane, you might also want to consider cities like Sydney and Melbourne, which have vibrant engineering communities and diverse experiences to offer.

Some things to keep in mind while you consider your internship options:

    1. Visa Requirements: Make sure to research the visa process for internships in Australia.
    2. Networking: Utilize platforms like LinkedIn to connect with professionals in your field. You may discover opportunities through networking.
    3. Internship Programs: Look for companies that have structured internship programs; they can provide a great learning environment.
    4. Regional Advantage: Consider the surrounding areas of Brisbane, like the Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast, both of which have beautiful beaches and can be a great escape.

Lastly, don’t hesitate to reach out to universities or organizations that support international students; they often have resources that can assist you in finding internships and settling in.

Best of luck on your adventure – it sounds like it will be an amazing experience! If you have any other questions or need more specific advice, feel free to ask.
