Attention: Review Your Electricity Bill!

Many of you may already know this, but as someone who tends to check their bill infrequently and simply pays the amount due, it’s time to take a closer look at your electricity bill.

Since 2023, electricity providers are required to include information about “Better Offers” to alert you if you’re being overcharged.

In the screenshot from my recent AGL bill in Queensland, I discovered I could save $218 a year just by switching from the “Core” plan they assigned me to the newer “AGL Value Saver” plan—a price reduction of over 10%.

I encouraged my brother to check his bill, and he found a similar situation. Check out the second image for a side-by-side comparison.

On a side note, it’s frustrating that while variable plan prices can hike up, companies introduce new plans with slightly altered names to keep customers on outdated, more expensive plans. For example, the shift from “Value Saver” to “AGL Value Saver.” It’s quite deceptive! See image 3 for reference.

  1. Thanks for sharing this important reminder! It’s frustrating how many people get stuck on older plans without realizing better options are available. The fact that providers make it so easy to overlook these changes is definitely not in the customers’ best interest. Checking your bill regularly can lead to significant savings, as you’ve illustrated with your own experience.

It’s great that you encouraged your brother to check, too—this kind of awareness can make a big difference. Hopefully, more people will catch on and start advocating for themselves when it comes to their electricity plans. It’s a shame that it often takes a push like this for consumers to find better deals. Thanks for advocating for us all to stay vigilant!
