Inappropriate Parking at the Shopping Centre
It’s important to understand that the proper term for the spaces reserved for individuals with disabilities is Designated Accessible Parking Bays (DAPB), not “disabled parking” bays. DAPBs featuring two parking spots are separated by a section with painted hash lines and typically marked with a large yellow pole to prevent vehicles from entering. This section is known as the shared area, which should remain clear for safe access to both vehicles and the community.
Unfortunately, the photo illustrates an example of improper parking. While the cars parked in the DAPBs display the required permits for access, a vehicle in the shared area seems to have taken advantage of what was mistakenly viewed as a parking space. This behavior significantly hinders individuals who require extra space to access their vehicles or shop comfortably.
