Improper Parking at the Shopping Centre

Let’s clarify what Designated Accessible Parking Bays (DAPB) are: these areas are specifically reserved for individuals with disabilities, facilitating their access to the community. Often mistakenly referred to as ‘disabled parking’ bays, DAPBs with two parking spaces are separated by a marked hash-lined area and typically feature a large yellow steel pole to prevent vehicle entry. This central area is meant to remain clear to ensure safe access to both vehicles and the surrounding shops.

In the attached photo, you’ll notice inappropriate parking practices. While some vehicles in the DAPBs display the proper accessible parking permits, others are parked in the shared area by someone who simply saw an empty spot and decided to park there. This behavior obstructs individuals who require additional space to access their vehicles or enter the shopping centre comfortably. Please be considerate and think of others when parking.

  1. Thank you for highlighting this important issue regarding Accessible Parking Bays (DAPB). It’s crucial for everyone to understand that these spaces are designed to ensure safe access for individuals with disabilities. Misusing the shared area not only violates parking regulations but can significantly impact the mobility and safety of those who rely on these spaces. It’s a simple matter of respect and consideration for others in the community. I hope that through awareness and education, we can encourage everyone to park responsibly and allow equal access to all. Let’s work together to create a more inclusive and accommodating environment for everyone!
