Study Abroad Inquiry

Hello everyone!

I’m an American college student considering a study abroad program in Australia and would love to get your insights.

I’ve done some research but am struggling to decide which city and university would be the best fit for me. I’ve heard that Sydney, Brisbane, and Perth are all great options.

I have a strong interest in scenic views and outdoor activities, as I want to truly immerse myself in Australian culture and the local community. Additionally, I’m looking for more affordable options. To give you a bit more context, I’m focusing on criminology in my studies.

I appreciate any and all advice you can offer! Thanks in advance!

  1. Hey there!

That sounds like an incredible adventure! Australia has so much to offer, and each city has its own unique vibe. Here are some thoughts on the cities you mentioned based on your interests:

    1. Sydney: Sydney is vibrant with stunning beaches, like Bondi and Manly, plus the iconic Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. It’s a great place for outdoor activities, such as surfing, hiking in the Royal National Park, and exploring coastal walks. However, keep in mind that it can be quite pricey when it comes to accommodation and general living expenses.

    2. Brisbane: Brisbane might be a more affordable option compared to Sydney. It’s known for its friendly atmosphere and beautiful parks, along with great access to outdoor activities like hiking in the nearby mountains or visiting the stunning beaches of the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. Plus, the university scene is strong, with institutions like the University of Queensland offering criminology programs.

    3. Perth: Perth is the most isolated major city in the world, which gives it a unique charm. It has a relaxed lifestyle, beautiful beaches, and stunning parks, plus you can explore nearby natural wonders like Rottnest Island. Living costs can also be lower than in Sydney, and universities like Curtin University and the University of Western Australia have strong criminology programs.

Considering your interest in scenery and outdoor activities, along with more affordable living, I’d recommend leaning towards Brisbane or Perth. Brisbane would be perfect for a lively urban experience with great outdoor access, while Perth offers a more laid-back vibe with stunning natural beauty.

Make sure to check the universities’ criminology programs and see which offers courses that align best with your interests. Good luck, and feel free to reach out if you have any more questions or need further advice!
