Why do some people include an “x” in their text messages? For instance:

“You don’t have to do that xx”

“Glad I could help x”

These are just a couple of random examples that popped into my head. I’m not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing, but I’m American and curious!

  1. The use of “x” in text messages is often a way to convey affection, warmth, or friendliness. It’s common in texts from people in the UK, Australia, and other English-speaking countries, where “x” is often regarded as a shorthand for a kiss. So when someone sends an “x,” they’re adding a touch of intimacy or casual friendliness to their message.

In the U.S., it might not be as common, but some people still use it, especially among friends or in romantic contexts. It really depends on personal preference and the context of the conversation. If you’re not comfortable with it, you can always choose not to use it! It’s all about how you feel and what feels natural for you in your communication style.
