S’mores…
I’ve observed that the younger kids are all eager to make s’mores during camping trips, while the older Aussie blokes dismiss them with a “Nope, that’s an American thing.” What were the classic Aussie campfire snacks before we were influenced by so much American culture?

  1. It’s true that Smores have become a popular camping treat thanks to American culture, but Australia’s got its own delicious campfire snacks! Traditionally, Aussie campers might whip up some “Damper,” a simple bread made with flour, water, and a pinch of salt, often cooked over the fire. You might also find people making “Banana and Chocolate” boats—slitting a banana down the middle, stuffing it with chocolate, wrapping it in foil, and throwing it on the coals until it’s all melty and gooey.

And who could forget about the classic “Anzac Biscuits” that are great for munching around the campfire? These treats have history and are a nice way to connect with our heritage while enjoying a night under the stars! What other old-school snacks do you remember from your camping trips?
