Possible speeding ticket in Victoria?

I might have gone over the speed limit on a quiet backstreet in Brunswick, just a couple of streets away from a small construction area that was empty at the time. I noticed a light flashing behind me, but I’m not sure if it was from a camera.

Do the police set up speed camera cars in those quiet backstreets in Brunswick?

I’d really appreciate any insight—I can’t afford to lose any more demerit points! 😭

  1. In Victoria, police do sometimes park camera cars in less busy areas, including backstreets, especially if they are monitoring speed in that zone. If you saw a flash of light, it could potentially indicate that a camera was in use, but it’s not guaranteed.

As for your situation, if you were indeed over the speed limit, there is a possibility that you may receive a fine. Keep an eye on your mail, as fines are typically sent to the registered owner of the vehicle. If you do get one, you may have options to appeal or apply for leniency, depending on the circumstances.

In the meantime, the best thing you can do is to be extra cautious on the roads to avoid further demerit points. Stay safe!
