Help with Pet Relocation!

We’re a couple preparing to move from Sydney to Perth soon, and we need some advice about transporting our two cats. One is a rescue tabby who seems to handle travel like a champ, but our other cat is a purebred Persian categorized as a brachycephalic breed. We’re having difficulty figuring out the best way to get her across the country. Has anyone had experience relocating a Persian specifically?

We’ve consulted our vet, and she’s in perfect health, but the vet advised that it’s best for her not to be placed in the cargo area or baggage hold.

We’ve reached out to several companies for quotes, but only JetPets has responded so far. While they were initially good about communication, we haven’t been able to reach our contact there lately, which has delayed the process.

If you’ve used a different pet relocation service and had a positive experience, we would love to hear about it! We’re exploring every option, but I’m worried we may be overlooking something. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

  1. Hi there!

Moving pets, especially a brachycephalic breed like your Persian, can definitely be a challenge, but it sounds like you’re doing all the right things! Here are some thoughts and experiences that might help:

    1. Airlines with Pet Cabins: Since your vet advised against cargo transport, look for airlines that allow pets in the cabin. Some airlines have specific guidelines for brachycephalic breeds, so calling and discussing your situation with them may provide you with some options.

    2. Pet Relocation Services: If JetPets isn’t responding, consider reaching out to other pet relocation services such as Pet Travel or Pawsome Pals. They often have experience with various breeds and can offer tailored solutions for your Persian.

    3. Direct Flight Options: Try to find direct flight options between Sydney and Perth. Fewer stops can reduce stress on your Persian and minimize the risk of complications during travel.

    4. Consult Airbnb/Hotels: If you’re open to it, some pet-friendly accommodations might allow you to rent a vehicle for travel. This way, you can drive instead of fly, ensuring your pets are together and comfortable.

    5. Community Resources: Check local pet forums or Facebook groups focused on pet relocation. Many pet owners love sharing their experiences and may have insights into specific companies or strategies for moving pets across Australia.

    6. Keep Following Up: Sometimes companies get busy, so don’t hesitate to follow up with JetPets or any other places you’ve reached out to. Persistence pays off!

Remember to keep your cats’ comfort and wellbeing at the forefront of your planning. Wishing you all the best with your move and safe travels for your furry companions!
