Subject: Recommendations for WHV in NSW?

Hello everyone! 😊

My partner (32m) and I (33f) are getting ready to leave Victoria in a few weeks and head to New South Wales, but we’re unsure of where to go!

We’ve been enjoying a Workaway experience in Wonthaggi and have really taken a liking to the small-town atmosphere over city life.

We’re looking to find some work, ideally as farmhands or at a plant nursery, but we’re open to any casual or temporary job opportunities.

We also plan to take a short road trip on our way to our next destination. We have a car and a basic tent setup with us.

While we’re okay with camping for a short period, if we find a place to stay for a few months, we’d love to locate a hostel with a room for two or some work opportunities that include accommodation.

This is our first year on a Working Holiday Visa, so we’re still getting the hang of things and trying to figure out how to choose a destination without knowing much about the availability of work or accommodation there. 🤔

If you have any recommendations or advice, we’d really appreciate your input! Thank you!

  1. Hey there!

It sounds like you have an exciting adventure ahead of you! Here are a few recommendations for places in NSW that might fit your small-town vibe and work needs:

    1. Byron Bay: While it’s popular and a bit touristy, there are many opportunities for farm work, especially in surrounding areas like Bangalow and Federal. Plus, the beach and community atmosphere are fantastic!

    2. Mudgee: Known for its wineries, Mudgee is a charming town with a strong agricultural presence. You can find work in vineyards and farms, and there are some hostels where you might get a private room.

    3. Tamworth: This town offers a mix of farming and country life. There’s often demand for farm workers, and you could explore the nearby country areas.

    4. Bellingen: A lovely small town near the coast, Bellingen has a vibrant community and opportunities for farm work. You might find some local hostels or homestays offering accommodation.

    5. Narooma: Nestled on the South Coast, Narooma offers work in hospitality and seasonal farm work. Plus, the natural beauty of the area is stunning!

As for road trip ideas, consider stopping at places like the stunning Blue Mountains, beautiful beaches along the coast, or regional towns like Bathurst or Orange.

For accommodation, check out hostel websites like Hostelworld or Airbnb for options that can accommodate two people. Websites like Gumtree and local Facebook groups are also great for finding job listings and potential share accommodations.

Don’t hesitate to reach out to locals wherever you land; they can be a treasure trove of information on job opportunities.

Safe travels, and have a great time exploring NSW!
