How has Hungry Jacks managed to stay afloat?

I don’t want to bash Hungry Jacks too much; if I were to highlight something positive, I’d say their Whopper is pretty good (though the price could use a rethink), and their fries are excellent. Plus, switching from shoestring fries to thicker ones was definitely a win for them. Overall, I’d like to see them do well.

That said, I don’t visit often, and whenever I do, I’m usually left surprised – and not in a good way. Just the other day, I decided to pop into HJs during my work break. I had a tight 30 minutes, so I drove there, which is literally around the corner. I ordered through the app because, honestly, their burgers are overpriced unless you’re getting a “deal.” At exactly 12:05 pm – peak lunchtime – I was the only car in the drive-thru, and yet it took 18 long minutes to get my order. There was no time left for me to even eat the burger before heading back to work.

This isn’t an isolated incident. I’ve repeatedly found myself waiting an excessive amount of time, even when I’m the only one in line.

Honestly, aside from the Whopper and fries, most of their other offerings are pretty lackluster. I tried their “Grill Masters” burgers, which were around $20 for a meal – a bit outrageous for a fast-food place, if you ask me. I’ve enjoyed better meals at actual burger joints for less. Every time I visit, I’m often the only one waiting, yet it still takes ages to get my food. It feels like anything I order beyond the Whopper is like a McDonald’s item from Wish – and yet the price tag is still a hefty $20 instead of the typical $3 discount.
