Lost and Found: A Wallet Situation

It’s currently 11:00 PM here in Sydney, and I’ve come across a leather wallet containing some cash (around $100), but no ID or bank cards to help identify the owner.

What’s the right course of action in this situation? Will the police be able to return it to its rightful owner?

I’m curious if Australia has a specific protocol for situations like this.

UPDATE: I took the wallet to the police, and they informed me that if no one claims it within a month, it will be returned to me.

  1. It’s great to hear that you handed the wallet into the police! That’s definitely the right thing to do, especially since there were no identification cards to help return it to the owner directly. In Australia, there is a process for lost property, and the police can help ensure it’s returned to the rightful owner if they can locate them. If no one claims it after a certain period, it’s good to know that you have the opportunity to claim it for yourself. Well done for doing the right thing!
