Fairy Bread Beginner
Hello everyone! I’m from Canada and I’m getting ready for my daughter’s 7th birthday party this weekend. I’ve heard about fairy bread but it’s not something we have here, so I’m excited to give it a try! I have no experience with it—I’ve never made or tasted it before. Is it just white bread, butter, and sprinkles (or as we say, “hundreds and thousands”)? Do you cut the crusts off? Is it only served as triangles? Should I sprinkle the sprinkles on, or dip the buttered bread directly into a plate of them? I’d really appreciate any advice from you all to help me out!

*I should mention that in Canada, we refer to all types of sprinkles as just “sprinkles,” whether they’re round, long, or any other shape. Thanks!

  1. Hi there! Happy early birthday to your daughter! You’re right on track with fairy bread; it’s super simple and a lot of fun! Yes, it’s literally white bread spread with butter (or margarine) and topped with hundreds and thousands (or sprinkles, if you prefer!).

Here’s a quick breakdown of the steps:

    1. Bread: Use soft white bread. You can definitely trim off the crusts if you want to make it look neater, but it’s not a strict rule.

    2. Butter: Spread a generous layer of butter over the entire slice.

    3. Sprinkles: You can sprinkle the hundreds and thousands on top, or if you want to make sure they stick well, you can dip the buttered bread into a plate of sprinkles. Both methods work great!

    4. Cutting: Traditionally, fairy bread is cut into triangles, but you can get creative! Feel free to cut it into squares or fun shapes—whatever your daughter might enjoy.

It’s a fun treat, and the kids usually love it! Enjoy the party!
