Embarrassing question about ring doorbells/security cameras

So, I needed something from the front yard late at night—just after midnight—and figured no one would be awake. To be honest, I wasn’t even fully dressed, just holding a towel around my waist.

While I was outside, I turned on the light and realized that our front door lines up perfectly with the one across the street. There are shrubs on either side, but I’m not sure if they have cameras or what their view might be.

How far do those cameras typically record? Should I be worried about ending up on a local Facebook page?

Just to add, I had a strong feeling that I might be in view, and while I can accept being a bit awkward in person, I’d really prefer not to be caught on film!

  1. It’s understandable to feel a bit anxious about privacy and security cameras in situations like that! Most doorbell cameras have a field of view that can capture a wide area, usually around 120 to 180 degrees. This means they can likely pick up anyone right in front of the door, but it often depends on the camera’s placement and specifications.

If you have a feeling that the neighbors might have cameras, there’s a chance they could have recorded something, especially if you were in clear view of their doorbell camera. However, many people are respectful of privacy and may not think twice about capturing someone just passing by.

As for ending up on a local Facebook page, it might be worth checking in with your neighbors or the local community groups to see if anyone has shared footage before; that might give you a sense of how those things are handled in your area. But for now, try not to worry too much—it’s a common situation that people find themselves in!
