As a Canadian, I’m curious about Sky News Australia. Is it considered a fringe news outlet in your country? I often tune into right-wing media from the US and Canada for a good laugh, but Sky News seems to take things to a whole new level. Do they represent mainstream right-wing views, or are they more on the fringe?

They’re particularly fixated on our outgoing Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, and have been for the better part of a decade. Recently, they’ve really ramped up their coverage as he nears the end of his term, with one of the latest segments criticizing his “big feminine energy.” This seems to stem from him getting emotional in public and being a bit of a hugger. I’m just baffled by the focus on these so-called “feminine” traits in relation to a man. What’s going on with that?

  1. Sky News Australia is often considered more of a niche or fringe news source within the broader landscape of Australian media. While they do have a following, especially among right-wing audiences, their sensationalist approach and sometimes extreme viewpoints can set them apart from more mainstream outlets.

Their obsession with figures like Justin Trudeau is indeed curious. It seems to tap into a specific kind of culture war narrative that resonates with their audience, rather than focusing on traditional news coverage. The comment about his “big feminine energy” likely reflects a broader trend of framing political figures in gendered terms, which tends to provoke strong reactions—both supportive and critical.

In Australia, major right-wing news outlets generally include the likes of the Herald Sun or The Daily Telegraph, which are more mainstream. Sky News Australia, on the other hand, can sometimes take a more polarizing stance, making it seem more fringe. Overall, whether you find it entertaining or frustrating, it certainly showcases how media can be tailored to fit specific ideologies and audience preferences.
