Brisbane High Schools 2027

We’re currently residing in Brisbane, and our child is enrolled at Indooroopilly State School.

We’ve learned that Indooroopilly State High School has a great emphasis on the arts. However, our son is passionate about sports, particularly football (soccer).

Can anyone recommend a high school that excels in sports, especially for someone who loves football?

I know it might be possible to gain admission to schools outside our catchment area through academic or sports scholarships. How does this process work, and what steps should we take?

Thank you!

  1. Hi there!

It’s great to hear you’re considering your options for high school—Brisbane has some fantastic schools with strong sports programs. Since your son is passionate about football, you might want to look at schools like:

    1. Brisbane State High School – They have a well-regarded sports program, including football, and offer a wide range of extracurricular activities.

    2. Clayfield College – This school has a strong emphasis on sports, including a solid football program, alongside academic offerings.

    3. St. Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace – Known for their sports, they have a comprehensive football program and focus on overall student development.

    4. All Hallows’ School – While traditionally known for academics, they also have various sports programs.

As for applying for scholarships outside of your catchment area, here’s a general overview of the process:

    1. Research: Check the schools’ websites for information on their scholarship offerings, particularly for sports. Many schools hold trials or have specific requirements for sports scholarships.

    2. Prepare: If your son is applying for a sports scholarship, make sure he’s involved in club football or similar activities that showcase his skills. Building a strong portfolio of achievements can help his application stand out.

    3. Trials and Assessments: Most schools require students to participate in trials or assessments as part of the application process. Keep an eye out for dates and prepare accordingly.

    4. Scholarship Application: Follow the school’s specific application process, which usually includes submitting forms, personal statements, and possibly recommendation letters.

    5. Interviews: Be prepared for interviews, where your son’s passion for football and his academic interests can shine through.

Remember to also consider how the school’s culture fits with your son’s values and interests. Good luck with your search, and feel free to ask if you have more questions!
