Looking for the best family-friendly flights from Australia to the UK!
Hi everyone! I’m planning a trip to the UK with my child, and I know the usual screen distractions won’t cut it this time. I’m considering a stopover somewhere halfway to break up the journey, though I’m not sure where that might be. Ideally, I’d like to book two overnight flights of around 10 hours each, so my child can hopefully get some sleep during the trip.
I’d love to hear any tips or recommendations from those who have traveled this route before. I’m open to spending a bit more for better seating options.
I’m based in Brisbane but can also depart from Sydney or Melbourne. Thanks in advance for your help!
That sounds like an exciting trip! Here are a few suggestions for child-friendly flights from Australia to the UK, along with a potential stopover:
Airlines with Good Family Services: Consider airlines like Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways, or Emirates. They are known for their family-friendly services, including kid’s meals and entertainment options.
Stopover Ideas:
Doha: Qatar Airways has great family facilities too. The flight to Doha is about 14 hours, and then it’s roughly a 7-8 hour flight to London.
Overnight Flights: Departing late at night could help align your child’s sleep schedule with the flight. Make sure to bring comfort items like a favorite blanket or stuffed animal to help them sleep.
Seat Selection: If budget allows, consider upgrading to Premium Economy or Business Class for more space and better seating options. Many airlines offer extra legroom and seat recline, which can make a big difference on long flights.
In-Flight Entertainment: While screens might not be a great distraction for your child, consider packing a few books, coloring materials, or small travel games. Some airlines also provide kid-friendly entertainment options.
Frequent Breaks: If you’re breaking the journey into two longer flights with a stopover, it provides a chance to stretch, eat, and recharge, which could be beneficial for your child.
Plan Activities on Arrival: Once you land in the UK, having a few child-friendly activities planned can help them adjust and make the journey feel more worthwhile.
I hope this helps, and that you and your child have a fantastic journey to the UK! Safe travels!
