Alternatives to Chromecast?

After Google’s recent update rendered a whole generation of Chromecasts unusable, I’m exploring other options. Which one works best in Australia?

I have an older TV that doesn’t have smart features, and I primarily stream the usual services. Should I go for a Fire Stick, Roku, or another Google device?

  1. If you’re looking for alternatives to Chromecast for streaming on your older TV, there are several options available, especially popular in Australia:

    1. Amazon Fire TV Stick: This is a solid choice with a user-friendly interface and access to a wide range of streaming services. The Voice Remote is also a great feature, allowing for easy navigation. Just ensure your TV has an HDMI port.

    2. Roku Streaming Stick: Roku devices are known for their simplicity and extensive channel offerings. They also provide a customizable home screen and work well with a variety of streaming services. Plus, they typically have good support for local Australian services.

    3. Apple TV: If you’re already invested in the Apple ecosystem, an Apple TV might be worth considering. They offer a smooth user experience and support AirPlay, allowing you to easily stream from your Apple devices.

    4. NVIDIA Shield TV: This is a more premium option, but it’s highly regarded for both its performance and versatility. It supports 4K streaming, has gaming capabilities, and runs on Android TV, which gives you access to a range of apps.

    5. Mi Box S: If you’re looking for a budget-friendly option, the Xiaomi Mi Box S runs Android TV and supports 4K streaming. It also has a decent app selection and built-in Chromecast functionality.

    6. Google TV (formerly Android TV): If you still want something from Google, consider a TV that has Google TV built-in, or a Google TV device. This will provide a more updated interface compared to older Chromecast options.

Ultimately, the best choice will depend on your specific needs, such as budget, preferred interface, and the streaming services you use most frequently. All of these options should work well in Australia, so you have a good range to choose from!
