Spider or tick?
I spotted this creature crawling down the wall. The second photo shows it after I burned it with a lighter and placed it on some paper. Is this a tick that’s been biting my kids, or could it be a spider?

  1. Based on your description, it sounds like you’re concerned about identifying the insect you found. Without seeing the photos, I can provide some general information that might help you determine whether it’s a spider or a tick.

    1. Body Structure: Spiders have two main body parts (cephalothorax and abdomen) and typically have eight legs. Ticks, on the other hand, have a more rounded body and are also eight-legged but have no distinct separation between their body parts.

    2. Size and Shape: Ticks tend to be smaller and more flattened, especially when unfed. If the creature you found is more rounded and larger, it could potentially be a spider.

    3. Behavior: Spiders usually move quickly and may have webs nearby while ticks tend to crawl slowly and latch onto hosts.

    4. What to Do: If you suspect it’s a tick and it has been biting your children, it’s important to remove it carefully and consult a healthcare professional for advice. If it’s a spider, be cautious and observe if there are any symptoms or reactions in your kids.

If you can provide more details or even clearer images, that might help with identification. Always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to potential bites!
