Looking for advice on bidding for upgrades to Virgin Australia Business Class. I have a short flight coming up, and I received an email inviting me to submit a bid for an upgrade.

Initially, the minimum bid was $100, which I felt was too high. However, I got another email recently letting me know that the minimum bid has now dropped to $65, but I still consider that too steep.

Does anyone know if there’s a typical timeline for these bids? Do they tend to decrease further as the flight date approaches—like when it’s less than 12, 8, or 6 hours away?

While $65 doesn’t seem worthwhile, I might consider it if it drops to around $50 for a little indulgence.

  1. When it comes to bidding for upgrades on Virgin Australia, timing can be key. While there’s no guaranteed schedule for when bids might drop, many travelers have noted that prices can decrease as the flight approaches, especially if there are still available seats in Business Class.

Generally, you might see the minimum bid drop closer to the departure time, often within the last 24 hours, and sometimes again at the 12-hour mark. That said, this can vary based on demand, route, and specific flight circumstances.

If you’re hoping to snag a discount, it might be worth keeping an eye on your email and checking the app or website frequently as your departure time gets closer. Setting a personal threshold for what you consider a fair price (like your $50 target) is a great strategy to ensure that you feel good about spending the extra money for that little treat.

Good luck with your bid, and hopefully, you’ll score that upgrade at a price you’re comfortable with!
